I graduated from BDS (Hons. Medicine) from The London Hospital and after a residency there my wife and I moved to Toronto where I gained my DDS. After achieving this and a a spell working in Northern Ontario we moved to Kelowna where I ran and enjoyed a General Practice for 16 years.
Interested in Sleep and Jaw Joint Disorders, I left the practice to my partners. I moved on with my wife and family to the UK and it was at this time that my interest in those areas took off – and I spent time in Harley Street, London with Dr. Irshad Ebrahim a prominent Sleep Physician there.
Recognizing the need to pursue this in greater depth I chose to return to full time education at Tufts University in Boston where I received my Fellowship in Facial Pain and Sleep Disorders. Following this I taught there, continuing my education at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard’s Children’s Hospital.
After three years teaching, I returned to the UK to achieve a Post Graduate Diploma in Behavioural Sleep Medicine at the University of Glasgow, the only dentist in Canada to hold this qualification.
Returning to London, I spent time with prominent sleep specialists including Mr. Kotecha consultant to London’s Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and Professor Anita Simonds at the Royal Brompton Hospital, also in London.
My wife and I returned to Kelowna and at the Kelowna Sleep Clinic worked on Predictive Testing for Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) prior to working in different offices to provide Sleep and Jaw Joint Problem solutions for their patients.
Since returning to Canada, I have also been awarded, by examination, the coveted Diplomate in the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, being the only dentist in BC’s interior to do so.
Subsequently I was also awarded, by examination; Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine. I’ve spend a fair bit of time in study!
I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to work with Jack whom I’ve known for 35 years. I’m looking forward to helping those with sleep problems who seek answers and assistance.
